Change: Railroad Stations
How Might the Landscape and Infrastructure Policies ofCounty Change?

In conjunction with the I-80 rail alignment, eight possible locations for railroad stations have been identified. These are all flat sites capable of supporting urban mixed-use development in the vicinity of the station.

A prototype station design is sited near the interchange of I-80 and route 33, and is used in several of the Alternative designs. It is conceived as a complex that combines a commuter rail station with a park-and-ride lot, surrounded by mixed uses such as retail and commercial. A multi-purpose auditorium would share parking facilities with the station on weekends and evenings. The station sits across from a proposed 325 acre park and recreation area which could be developed as a public resort facility possibly including a hotel, golf course and club house, an equestrian center, and cross-country ski trails.

The rail route and station design would make a traveler on the proposed railroad constantly aware of Monroe County's duality: on the western side is the rural landscape and on the eastern, the new urban landscape.
