Caravan Future Sytems
The Caravan is a rare example of an architect designed trailer.
It was developed as a prototype trailer by Jan Kaplicky and Amanda Levete,
of Future Systems in 1991. The design is a monocque construction built out of
foam moldings. The shaping of the unit, follows the shape of its tow car, a Toyota
Celica, in an attempt to improve aerodynamics and shorten the turning radius
of the combined car-trailer.

![]() As with the Aerocar, the caravan borrows materials and technology from other fields, in this case boatbuilding, to create an innovative form and new relationship between the car and the trailer. |
