Upload questions:
How do I get nominated for Studio Works?
Each Studio/Core professor nominates three students or groups
per semester. After the work has been uploaded and processed in
the database, a faculty advisor from each department curates the
selection of work for the Exhibition and website.
Can I burn my images to DVD?
Please submit only CDs. Multiple CDs are fine, but please no DVDs.
My images are really big. What is the maximum file size
you will accept?
Please submit files that are under 500Mb. If you have a large
board, please divide it into smaller pieces.
The instruction sheet says I am allowed to submit 16
pieces. If I have a model, does it count as 1 piece?
Each student is allowed up to 16 total spaces in the Studio Works
database. This means that if Anita, the photographer, takes 2
shots of your model, it will take up 2 spaces in the database,
leaving 14 spaces for other images. If you are submitting a model
and you have a lot of images, please discuss the photographing
of your model with Anita so that you know how many spaces you
have available for other images.
How do I resize my images for the 72dpi version?
Launch Photoshop and open your image. First, make sure the image
is in RGB or Grayscale mode, not CMYK. Go to Image > Image
Size. An "Image Size" window appears. Make sure "Resample
Image" is checked. Under Pixel Dimensions, if either the
Width or Height dimension is over 2000, change it to 2000. (If
both dimensions are over 2000, change the higher one to 2000.
2000 pixels is the maximum dimension we will accept for the upload.)
Also, make sure that neither dimension is under 800 pixels.
What is CMYK vs. RGB and why do you care?
Briefly, CMYK and RGB are modes of color combination used to create
an image file. Printers generally use Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and
blacK ink to make images. This is why your 300dpi versions of
images (that may be selected and plotted for use in the exhibition)
need to be in CMYK mode. Web pages, viewed on the computer, display
images created by a combination of Red, Green, and Blue light.
Your 72dpi images are used for the selection process (via computer)
and, if selected, on the Studio Works website.
I lost my release form. Where can I find a new one?
Click this link for the
release form in PDF.
If I've been nominated, does it mean my work will be
included in the website and/or the exhibition?
No. After you submit your work, there is a further selection process
that is conducted by the faculty advisors of Studio Works. Each
academic department chair picks one faculty member from their
department to act as a faculty advisor to select the final work.
So when do I find out if my work has been selected?
You will find out if your work has been selected when the website
goes live and the exhibition opens. The website for Fall work
usually goes live in the Spring, and the Spring work goes live
in the Fall. The exhibition in the Gund Hall Lobby, including
work from the past school year (Fall and Spring), opens in the
beginning of September.
Why was my model tossed?
We are not able to store your model beyond September 30. Although
we will make attempts to contact you, you are responsible for
retrieving your work before the deadline. You can pick up your
model after the Studio Works Exhibition.
I've lost all record of my work, and you have the only
copy. Can I have my disk back?
No, but you're welcome to come to our office to make a copy of
it yourself. Our disk of your work cannot leave our office. We
are located in 7 Sumner Road, Room 403.
