My official title is Assistant Dean for Information Technology and Director of the Computer Resources Group at the Graduate School of Design, Harvard University.

I have taught in the GSD's Department of Landscape Architecture since 1989.

My MLA is from the Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst; my PhD from the Department of Urban Studies & Planning at MIT.

In 2005 I was honored as a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects .

My major research interest

is in applications of computing to landscape planning and design.

• In Summer 2001 McGraw-Hill published "Landscape Modeling: Digital Techniques for Landscape Visualization", co-authored with Hope Hasbrouck. The on-line version can be found at http://www.landscapemodeling.org
• The May, 2001 special issue of Landscape and Urban Planning has my article ""Digital Landscape Modeling and Visualization: A Research Agenda" on the problems and prospects of digital landscape visualization '; an on-line version is here from the conference on "Our Visual Landscape" held in Ascona, Switzerland in September 1999;

• For several years I was a co-P.I. on a major regional change study of the area around Camp Pendleton in southern California.
• For several years I taught GSD2107 Fundamentals of Computer Aided Design at the GSD,
  and the Introduction to GIS courses, now ably handled by my colleague Paul Cote.
• In alternate semesters I've also taught Advanced Topics in Landscape Computing , an investigation of the special problems and possibilities of modelling landscape phenomena; sometimes called "Virtual Gardens", and sometimes GSD2307M4 Dynamc and Phenomenal Modeling "
• Several years of collaboration with colleagues at the University of Toronto Centre for Landscape Research have been fun & fruitful;
• as have the last few years working with colleagues at the Ingenieurschule Interkantonales Technikum Rapperswil (ITR), now HSR. ;
