The Design Robotics Group has been prominently featured in the reports from Smartgeometry 2012 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. The group was selected to lead a cluster on Ceramics 2.0, an outgrowth of research from the course Material Processes and Systems: CeramicsLAB.
The theme of this year’s conference was “Material Intensities -Simulation, Energy, Environment,” and its first day was structured as workshop clusters to promote collaboration across multiple disciplines, rather than one-directional learning. One of the “material research” clusters, Ceramics 2.0 demonstrated the fabrication of custom bricks with a robot. See a great video of the work in action on Archinect, a full slideshow in the Huffington Post, and more photos from all three days on Graphic Speak.
The DRG’s participation in the conference was sponsored by ASCER Tile of Spain.
