Carlos Garciavelez (MAUD ’12 and Lecturer in Urban Design) takes a stand on the future fields of urban action in Mexico City in his OpEd piece for the current issue of Domus Mexico, “Nuevos campos de accion Urbanistica.” The piece frames the architect as one of the primary actors that give shape and identity to the contemporary city, and moves a away from the idea of Mexico City as an unmanageable monster in favor of strategic visions that can tackle the city across a wide range of conditions and scales. The article argues for a collection of interventions that rescale mobility infrastructure, provide new types of housing stock and re-qualify urban space, in a gradual manner that can add up to a new urban vision for the city.
