GSD denizens have represented a strong presence at the Buenos Aires Biennale: BienalBA. Inaki Abalos (professor in residence and chair of the department of architecture), Felipe Correa (associate professor of urban design and director of the urban design degree program), Rahul Mehrotra (professor of urban design and planning and chair of the department of urban planning and design) and Jorge Silvetti (professor of architecture) were featured keynote speakers.
Mehrotra is being honored with the Bienal de Arquitectura Internacional. The award jury said: “The thinking and practice of the architect Rahul Mehrotra shapes the stage within an extraordinary political, geographical and socially complex environment, to introduce us to the fascinating spiritual labyrinth of the current urban age.”
The South America Project, a research initiative headed by Felipe Correa, presented an exhibition and symposium, SAP / Projects in Process, showcasing the work of Anita Berrizbeitia (professor of landscape architecture and director of the master in landscape architecture degree programs), Ana Maria Duran (LF ’11) and Florencia Rodriguez (current Loeb Fellow), as well as the research of a large number of alumni. Ryley Poblete (current MArch) assisted the Buenos Aires team in creating the exhibition. Rahul Mehrotra will give the closing remarks at the symposium.
Two other exhibitions, Working in Mumbai: Recent Work by Rahul Mehrotra Architects, and Elective Affinities: Applied Research and Design Work by Somatic Collaborative, by Felipe Correa and Anthony Acciavatti (MArch ’09), are also part of the Biennale.
