JSAH publishes Peter Christensen (PhD Candidate) review of Baghdad exhibition

Peter Christensen (PhD Candidate) recently published a review of the exhibition “Baghdad: City of Mirages, 1952-1982” for the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, the journal of record in the field of the history of the built environment. In his review Christensen analyzes the exhibition’s proposition that the work of foreign architects in Baghdad in a period where it evolved from a British mandate to a monarchy and then to a republic marked a florescence of its more recent history. Christensen goes incisively beneath the surface of the exhibition’s rich array of content to analyze and critique its presuppositions, including reflections on “later” orientalism, late capitalism and transnational architectural practice.
