Ábalos & Herreros archive at CCA, on exhibit

In conjunction with their recent acquisition of the Ábalos & Herreros archive, the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal has mounted “Out of the Box: Ábalos & Herreros,” curated by OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen. On view through May 17, 2015, the exhibition looks at the collective work of chair of the department of architecture Iñaki Ábalos and Juan Herreros, whose firm was active in Madrid between 1985 and 2008.

Speaking of their work (specifically a recycling plant in Madrid), architect Cedric Price noted: “there’s a sense of modesty linked to economy, linked to the process of real economy that shows a pride and delight in deciding on real priorities. […] It is a model of how you should handle consumer society before waste occurs. It’s wonderful because it’s a model for how society should approach the problem of recycling without being pompous.” Links between modesty, design, economy, and energy are all explored in the CCA exhibition.
