The Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP) has named Jon Lott (MArch ’05), design critic in architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, one of five finalists for its Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize for Emerging Architecture (MCHAP.emerge) 2014/15 award. Lott was recognized in particular for his Haffenden House, designed via his firm PARA Project.
The five MCHAP.emerge 2014/15 finalists were selected from 55 nominated works put forward by 95 nominators from throughout the Americas. Lott and his co-finalists will be celebrated on April 1 at the MCHAP.emerge Symposium and Award Dinner in Chicago, at which the prize recipient will be announced.
The College of Architecture at Illinois Institute of Technology established the biennial MCHAP and MCHAP.emerge prizes to recognize pre-eminence in architecture while, with the MCHAP.emerge prize, additionally awarding a member of the profession’s younger generation who harnesses the talent and ambition needed to devise and bring forth outstanding built work, according to its website.
In addition to Haffenden House—which serves as a writing studio for two poets—Lott’s recent and current work includes Syracuse University’s School of Education Commons and the Van Alen Institute in New York City (with Collective-LOK), which recently received an Award of Honor from the American Institute of Architects.
Lott is recipient of the Design Vanguard award (by Architectural Record), the New Practices New York award (by the American Institute of Architects), and the Architectural League Prize (by the Architectural League of New York). He was also a MoMA/PS1 Young Architects finalist.
