Design Robotics Group featured in reports from Smartgeometry 2012

The Design Robotics Group has been prominently featured in the reports from Smartgeometry 2012 at RPI in Troy, New York. The group was selected to lead a cluster on Ceramics 2.0, an outgrowth of research in the course Material Processes and Systems: CeramicsLAB.  The theme of this year's conference was "Material Intensities -Simulation, Energy, Environment," and its first day was structured in clusters to promote collaborative work across multiple disciplines, rather than one-directional information. Ceramics 2.0 was one of the "material research" clusters, creating custom bricks with a robot.

GSD team to participate at the Bocconi University Urban Campus international competition

A GSD team has been invited by the Politecnico di Milano to participate at the Bocconi University “Urban Campus” International Competition. Led by Professor Joan Busquets and  Professor Hashim Sarkis, the design team includes Stefano Andreani (MDesS ’13), Federico de Molfetta (MDesS ’13), and Xing Xiong (MArch II ’12) and will compete with nine international teams.

Article by Dan Weissman (MDesS ’12) on [Re]Building Port-au-Prince

An article by Dan Weissman (MDesS '12) on his experiences in Haiti was published in Gobal Post. Since February 2011 he has been involved in a series of reconstruction projects that are a collaboration between the GSD, MIT’s School of Architecture and Urban Planning, and various NGOs, government agencies and corporate entities throughout the Port-au-Prince region. Over the course of six trips to the city, the team continues to engage in projects ranging from small architecture and urban design to macro-scale territorial planning, water and landscape management projects.

Carson Chan (MDesS ’05) Curates 2012 Arts in Marrakech Biennale

 The 4th Edition of Arts in Marrakech (AiM) Biennale, titled Higher Atlas and curated by Carson Chan (MDesS '05) and Nadim Samman, opened on February 29 and will run through June 3. Located throughout the former Imperial City–the half-finished Théâtre Royal and its oversized courtyard being the main venue–the exhibition features immersive installations by international artists and architects.
