Sai Balakrishan wins ACSP award

The Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning has announced its 2013 awards, and Sai Balakrishan (PhD ’13) is being honored with the Gill-Chin Lim Award for the Best Dissertation on International Planning. Her paper “Land Conflicts and Cooperatives along Pune’s Highways: Managing India’s Agrarian to Urban Transition” focuses on the challenges as India makes its conversion from an agrarian to an urban economy.

GSD bridges gap between design and science

Research and collaboration is front and center at the GSD, and these days, it’s moving design forward into areas never before ventured. The Design Robotics Group (DRG), a research unit that looks at the role of material processes and systems in the built environment, and the Responsive Environments and Artifacts Lab (REAL), have delved into the world of science through their innovative partnership with the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering.

PhD students write about ornament in contemporary global architecture

Aliki Economides and Marrikka Trotter, both in the GSD PhD program, presented papers on ornament in contemporary global architecture at IDEA@UdeM 2013 (International Doctoral Encounters in Architecture at the Université de Montréal). The papers will be published in 2014 in a collection co-edited by Economides.
