Advanced Site Modeling

Prerequisite: GSD 2109, GSD 6319, GSD 6322, GSD 2107, or permission of instructorThis course explores the problems of building and maintaining representations of broad-scale urban sites, partricularly the sort of problems where the data assimilation and management capabilities of geographic information systems meet the three-dimensional modeling capabilities of computer aided design (CAD) tools. Students will be introduced to technologies for collecting and managing three-dimensional urban data. Then they will develop their own models, exploring the issues such as terrain modeling, level of detail, management of three-dimensional elements in a database, and server-based collaborative modeling systems.
