Construction Systems
This course introduces a framework to know the instantiation of architecture through construction systems. Construction systems will be discovered through the methods of dissection, drawing, and building selected systems to reveal their materials and materials attributes, their logics of assembly, their detailing and manufacture, and their performance in the presence of environmental flows. Construction systems, and by association, wall, roof, envelope, and foundation systems, will be further examined for specificity where they are shaped by regimes of culture, climate, tools, time, and design philosophy.
The first meeting of this course, on Wednesday, August 30th, will take place in room 112 (Stubbins) in Gund Hall. The course will meet thereafter in Piper Auditorium.
