Discourse and Methods

This course is open only to Ph.D. students in Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning and Design (other FAS Ph.D. students may participate with instructor\’s permission).  This year\’s course focuses on the interplay between knowledge, ideology, space and capitalism.  After surveying several major theories of ideology, we consider their applications to the investigation of spatial representations, discourses, institutions and practices during the history of modern capitalist development.  Students will confront these issues by relating them to key methodological concerns and horizons in their own emerging research agendas.
