Immersive Environments

Over the past 15 years several areas of research within digital practice have evolved into their own disciplinary areas of knowledge – from prototyping and fabrication, parametric and computational form generation, to integrated practice methodologies and building information modeling. This course seeks to posit the role of digital media within the broader context of digital practice and to examine the analytic, perceptual and generative capacities of the medium to design and communicate ideas in the virtual realm. Through a series of weekly lab exercises we will be exploring topics in building and environment simulation that range from light transport algorithms and material simulation, daylighting and artificial lighting systems, site and landscape simulation, to the analytic and perceptual applications of animation and virtual photography.
