A Conversation With John Portman
John Portman, Founder and Chairman of John Portman & Associates, a leading design firm based in Atlanta, Georgia will be joined by Mohsen Mostafavi, Dean of the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD) and faculty members K. Michael Hays, Mariana Ibanez and Mack Scogin for a public discussion of Mr. Portman’s extensive body of work and distinguished career.
John Portman has dedicated his life to the improvement of Atlanta and cities around the world through design. As founder and chairman of John Portman and Associates, Portman Holdings, AmericasMart and the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center, he has revolutionized the way people live and how they think about the built environment. In 1967 Mr. Portman gained international recognition as an architect and developer for his revolutionary design of the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta, the first modern atrium hotel. His innovative architectural and urban design projects, duplicated around the world, have acted as catalysts for the renaissance and continued growth of city districts including downtown Atlanta, Times Square in New York City, Embarcadero Center in San Francisco, the Marina Bay area of Singapore, and Shanghai Center in Shanghai.
