Matt Teismann awarded Indonesia grant

Matt Teismann (MDes candidate) was awarded a grant from the Harvard Kennedy School's Indonesia Program for his project (Architecture) Without Origins. Teismann will spend 3 weeks in Indonesia, Sumatra, and Nias in August and September to analyze how cultural and social estrangement in Sumatra has been influenced by the disappearance of deeply rooted and rich architectural heritage exemplified in the village of Bawömataluo.

Dan Borelli (MDes ’12) receives ArtPlace Grant

The Nyanza Superfund site was a giant lemon for the town of Ashland, Massachusetts, but Dan Borelli (MDes ’12 in Art, Design and the Public Domain) is intent on making lemonade. He’s just received an ArtPlace grant to create an oral and visual history of the community’s relationship with the site, and a light and landscape installation.

Arielle Assouline-Lichten (MArch ’13), co-instigator of the Denise Scott Brown Pritzker petition, has been selected to participate in “OfficeUS”, a functioning architectural firm that is the American Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale.

Gary Hilderbrands latest work

Robert Campbell writes in the Boston Sunday Globe that it’s too soon to rule on the success of the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute before it opens at Williams College. But so far he likes what he sees, the result of a partnership of architect Tadao Ando and Gary Hilderbrand (professor of landscape architecture). Loebs and GSDers Score with Artplace grants

Generous grants from ArtPlace America will be fertilizing the initiatives of several Loebs as well as GSD director of exhibitions Dan Borelli in the coming year.
