The Harvard University Graduate School of Design (GSD) announced today that John K. F. Irving (AB ’83, MBA ’89, GSD Campaign Chair) and Anne Irving Oxley, have made a significant donation of $10 million to the School in honor of their father John E. (Jack) Irving.

Acting as the Agencia de Resiliencia Urbana (Urban Resilience Collective), Adriana Chávez (MDesS and MArch '14), Víctor Rico Espínola (MAUD '14), Oscar Malaspina (MAUD '13), Elena Tudela (MAUD '12), Einat Rosenkrantz (MAUD '13) and Johanan Rivera (HKS MPAID '13) collaborated with Mexico City to create its winning proposal.
The Horizon House project developed by a team of GSD students came to fruition, and part of the team traveled to Taiki-cho, Japan for the opening event last month.

Gormley creates spaces that encourage active participation with art rather than passive observation, calling into question the exclusivity of art along with art’s relationship to design. The Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning has announced its 2013 awards, and Sai Balakrishan (PhD ’13) is being honored with the Gill-Chin Lim Award for the Best Dissertation on International Planning. Her paper “Land Conflicts and Cooperatives along Pune’s Highways: Managing India’s Agrarian to Urban Transition” focuses on the challenges as India makes its conversion from an agrarian to an urban economy.
The Smart[er] Citizens research and teaching collaboration between the GSD and Bergamo University has launched with a one-week design workshop in Bergamo, Italy. The workshop's strategic analysis of Bergamo will form the basis for the Smart[er] Cities course being offered in the 2014 spring semester by Nashid Nabian.
A new competition chaired by GSD Dean Mohsen Mostafavi and SEAS Dean Cherry Murray challenges students to propose sustainable ideas that would improve urban life by 2030.
