Cristiane Muniz

Design Critic in Urban Planning and Design

UNA MUNIZVIEGAS is an architecture and urbanism firm based in São Paulo, opened in 2019, founded by Cristiane Muniz and Fernando Viegas. Both are under and post graduated at FAUUSP, 1993/1994.

Since 2004 they have been professors at Escola da Cidade, the independent School of Architecture and Urbanism in São Paulo. Muniz is the current academic director of the undergraduate program and co-coordinated a postgraduate course about education in architecture for 5 years. Viegas is president of the Institution and since 2010 co-coordinates the post-graduate course Geography, City and Architecture.

Teaching activity and its extension with conferences, workshops, seminars and critics are also part of daily life and complement architectural practice, supporting applied research.

In 1996 they founded Una Arquitetos office, which develops projects at various scales, from urban plans, redevelopments, transport infrastructure projects, schools, museums, cultural centers, as well as housing at different scales.

They have received several national and international awards, and have participated in important exhibitions such as four editions of the Venice Biennale, several editions of the Bienal Iberoamericana, the Lisbon Triennale, and the Biennial of Chile, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Argentina.

In 2006, they were invited to participate in the exhibition Coletivo: Contemporary paulista architecture and in the book edited by Cosac & Naify. Works have been published in the world’s leading architectural magazines, such as Projeto, AU, Summa, Plot, Elarqa, Arquine, JA, Architectural Record, Architectural Review, Domus, L’architecture d’aujourd’hui, GA, and 2G, among others.
