Karolina Kawiaka (MArch ’94) Nominated for People’s Choice Award

Karolina Kawiaka (MArch '94) has been named a winner in the National Ideas Competition for the Washington Monument grounds. Her design, "The People's Forum," is currently on display at the National Building Museum and will be included in an upcoming show at the Virginia Center for Architecture. Professor Chris Reed to speak at LABASH Conference

Chris Reed (AB '91), Adjunct Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture and Founding Principal of Stoss Landscape Urbanism, will present a keynote lecture entitled "Landscape and City-Making" at the annual LAbash conference on Friday March 16 in Miami.

Two GSD Teams Recognized at ULI/Gerald D. Hines Student Urban Design Competition

The Urban Land Institute/Gerald D. Hines Student Urban Design Competition challenges multidisciplinary student teams to create a comprehensive development program for a real, large-scale site. This year's student entries numbered 139 between 64 schools and proposed a long-term vision for creating a distinct identity for a new downtown Houston district. Two teams of GSD students were recognized in the tenth annual competition, one with an honorable mention for superior site planning, and the other, a joint team with the University of Colorado, was selected as one of four finalists.

Dongwoo Yim (MAUD ’08) and PRAUD Win Honorable Mention

Dongwoo Yim (MAUD '08) of PRAUD (Progressive Research in Architecture, Urbanism and Design) received an honorable mention for their design, the Greenhouse Transformer in the Harlem Edge/Cultivating Connections competition. The competition called for redevelopment designs of the decommissioned Department of Sanitation marine transfer station located in the Hudson River at 135th Street.

Spedstudio to design Aalst Masterplan

Venice-based Spedstudio, founded by Saverio Panata (MArch '08), has won the competiton for the Aalst masterplan in Belgium. The integrated schematic design for 40 hectares will include 800 dwellings.
