Landscape Urbanization

This lecture course explores the theories, tactics and workings of Landscape Urbanism. It positions Landscape Urbanism as an intellectual re-alignment of landscape\’s role in urbanization processes, rather than qualifying it as a practice-based discipline conditioned by the study of historical precedents and contemporary built projects. Several rapidly urbanizing city-regions will be examined and discussed in depth. Through representing and revealing large-scale site pressures of urbanizing territories the landscape urbanist may speculate upon and identify any number of potential landscapes which may be conceived within the existing resource structure. A wide array of multi-disciplinary topics are presented through weekly lectures, readings and guest speakers. Students will conduct research that contributes to the discourse of LU and identifies future work for the field.
