GSD team wins ASLA National Award for Collaboration

Michael Albert (Master in Landscape Architecture), Victor Perez Amado (Master in Architecture), and Anna Cawrse,  (Master of Landscape Architecture) have been chosen to receive an American Society of Landscape Architects National Honor Award in Student Collaboration for their project “Bayou Commons,” a master land use plan for downtown Houston. The project was a collaboration with partners from the University of Colorado (Chad Murphy, MBA Real Estate and Alex Atherton, MBA Real Estate). It won top prize in the 2012 Urban Land Institute/Gerald D. Hines Student Urban Design Competition in April. Anita Berrizbeitia (professor of landscape architecture and director of the master in landscape architecture degree programs), served as faculty advisor.
The new award will be made at the ASLA Annual Meeting in Phoenix this September.  From over 600 student entries, only three such honors are historically conferred in this particular category.
“Needless to say, we feel extremely fortunate and humbled to receive such an honor and feel even more excited that the honor will shine light onto the GSD’s spirit towards collaboration,” said Michael Albert.
