Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc., is awarded the American Planning Association’s 2014 National Planning Excellence Award for Urban Design for their design transformation of the Brooklyn Bridge Park project. Goals of the newly designed park include reintroducing self-sustaining ecosystems to the site, and to improve public access to the site. Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc., is led by founding principal Michael Van Valkenburgh and has offices in New York City and Cambridge. Van Valkenburgh is the Charles Eliot Professor in Practice of Landscape Architecture at the GSD where he teaches landscape architecture studios, and has served as program director and as the chair of the Landscape Architecture department.
