Niall Kirkwood, Professor of Landscape Architecture and Technology is cohosting and organizing the first ever conference on Brownfields to be held in China. In collaboration with Professor Xiaodi Zheng (MLA’ 00), the event titled “International Conference on Brownfield Regeneration and Healthy Cities” will be held at Tsinghua University, Beijing in September and will bring together foreign presenters including Jane Philbrick (MDes’16) and Hatzav Joffe (MLA’ 13) from Germany, England, Israel and North America with Chinese counterparts and Central Government officials. The meeting of experts will break existing boundaries between disciplines and across different research areas as a means to address the legacy of brownfields in China through design and engineering. Participants will also visit Tangshan Nanhu, Shougang North steel industry and Jinxiu Valley waste landfill site.
