Advanced Drawing
DISEGNO=DISEGNO DESSEIN=DESSINIn Italian and French, drawing and design are the same word. This course concentrates on drawing as a design tool, from the initial stages of a concept\’s inception to its ultimate form in representation for studio review. The intent is to encourage fluency through intensive drawing and to discover the potential of the language of drawing through experiencing a variety of media, from charcoal and pencil to pastel and oil paint. Color will be an important aspect of our investigation: the role it plays in enhancing a sense of form, creating space and light. The class works extensively from life (models, interior and exterior spaces) to improve seeing and skills. But the thrust of the class is to develop new modes of representation by experimenting with a range of source materials, including photography and computer generated images. We will also reinterpret CAD generated images as drawings in charcoal, pastels, and pencil to provide a more perceptual representation of a design.Study of the work of artists and designers past and present will provide new ideas and inspiration. We will take advantage of current exhibitions and visiting artists and will visit various sites to draw and experience different spaces. You should bring the following supplies with you to the first class meeting, as we will begin drawing at that time: 18\’ x 24\’ Newsprint Pad (not slick) Vine Charcoal: hard & medium Kneaded Eraser Charcoal Sharpener Emery Board Soft Graphite Pencil & Small Pad
