Analysis and Design of Building Structures I
This course introduces students to the analysis and design of structural elements. Loads on structures are considered first; subsequent sessions cover the fundamental principles of statics and strength of materials, including basic concepts such as force, rigid body equilibrium, shear forces and bending moments, stresses and deformations. The course continues with the analysis and design of beams, columns and trusses, using analytical and graphical methods as well as computer programs. Students apply structural design principles in the context of a limited design project.
