Elements of the Urban Stack
As our physical and virtual worlds become more and more intertwined, the “Urban Stack” presents itself as an organizational system for our built environment – one that is able to organize based not just on materiality and performance, but one that takes into account intention, intelligence, interactivity and connection.
Through the lens of the “Urban Stack” we aim to take a deeper look into the elements that constitute our urban environment and how new technologies, applications, significant societal actors and the power structures of Capital are transforming industries, the agency of design, social systems and cultural values.
This seminar interrogates the designer’s role today and in the future as a provider of solutions, strategist, entrepreneur, advocate and/or agent of change. The course is intended for students interested in the practice of architecture, landscape and development at the metropolitan scale.
