Film Architectures: Seminar Course

What is our experience of architecture in cinema? Considering the relation of these two arts of space, we look at how film and architecture are linked in history on the \’screen\’ of the modern age. Highlighting the interaction of modernity, urban culture, and cinema, we explore the architecture of film in relation to the architectures of transit and the culture of travel.Emphasis is on readings as well as analysis of case study to pursue research projects and make presentations to the seminar. Case study centers on the cine city, with focus on the architecture of theatres, starting from the era of the movie palace.Film screenings are held on Tuesdays from 7-9, in the location noted.Note: Active participation in seminarial endeavors is required. Ideally followed with 4352.Prerequisite: A course in film studies or the equivalent course in cultural studies.
