Lisbon Story – Architecture Between Atmosphere and Tectonics

The Option Studio will develop a project for Lisbon.

In the heart of medieval city, in a plot of land in the historical center, students are invited to design a building that will connect the city with the castle of São Jorge, creating a new door to the hill.

This public facility will also integrate a kind of a small library, allowing students to investigate topics such as the relationship with the urban context, the tectonic sense of the building and the construction of atmospheres through architecture.

To materialize this process, students will develop models and section drawings in large scales, as well as atmospheric images, where materiality, light, scale and density will always be present.

The final objective is to propose a contemporary intervention that will reread and resume the spirit of the place, amplifying its sense trough a sensorial approach.

A deep reflection and debate between Ricardo Bak Gordon and the students, as well as following their technical investigation, will become the base of the daily work in the option studio.

IRREGULAR SCHEDULE:
Ricardo Bak Gordon will be in residence on the following dates: September 1, 2, 15, 16, 29 and 30, October 13, 14, 27 and 28, November 10, 11, 24 and 25, and for Final Reviews in December.
