Perspectives on Technology in Architecture

This course presents a perspective on the evolution of the major building technologies and their influence on building form and design. Beginning with an overview of climatic, energy and structural fundamentals, the primary focus of the course will be on the theories of physical phenomena as interpreted by designers and builders, and how those theories have evolved throughout history to produce the current array of building systems. The application of these systems, including environmental, structural and material, will be further examined through selected case studies and field trips.
