Students confront shifting landscape of American suburbia

Sururban development trends were explored in-depth by a Harvard University Graduate School of Design option studio entitled the Storm, the Strife, and Everyday Life: Sea Change in the Suburbs. Led by design critic Daniel D’Oca (MUP ’02), this studio tasked each student with examining a major concern in the suburbs.

Jerold Kayden and Robert Hammond walk the Rose Kennedy Greenway with the Boston Globe

On the tail end of a week as a visiting fellow in residence at the Harvard Graudate School of Design, Robert Hammond, who cofounded the organization “Friends of the High Line” and cocreated the celebrated High Line park in New York City, met up with Boston Globe reporter Renée Loth and Jerold Kayden, the Frank Backus Williams Professor of Urban Planning and Design, to walk the Rose Kennedy Greenway in Boston.

The Social Agency Lab is a multidisciplinary research group. Its mission is to study “the way in which individuals, institutions and organizations shape social outcomes in cities.” It features work done by research assistants and students who are conducting a thesis.
