Cold Storage (2015, 20mins.), a documentary short directed by Cristoforo Magliozzi and produced and written by Jeffrey Schnapp, Matthew Battles, and the metaLAB team, portrays the dislocated heart of Harvard University’s library system and one of the largest book depositories in the world. Organized by Daniel Rauchwerger MDes '15 and Noam Dvir MAUD '14 in conjunction with their exhibition Icons of Knowledge (opening January 28 in Loeb Library), the screening will be the film's on-campus premiere. A film that inspired it will be screened as well—Alain Resnais’s Toute la mémoire du monde (1956, 22 mins.).
Following the screenings, Jeffrey Schnapp (professor of romance languages and literature and director of metaLAB) will lead a roundtable in discussion in Loeb Library on the ways space makes place, delving into the ways changing spaces reflect new library culture and how user perceptions of libraries are transformed by changes in the physical spaces. Joining the discussion are:
Matthew Battles, Associate Director of metaLAB
Noam Dvir, Harvard GSD
Haden Guest, Director of the Harvard Film Archieve
Eric Howeler, Assistant Professor of Architecture at the GSD
Cristoforo Magliozzi, Principal and Project Coordinator at metaLAB
Daniel Rauchwerger, Harvard GSD
Sarah Thomas, Vice President for Harvard Library
