“Icons of Knowledge” Public Guest Lecture, Jürgen Engel and Eckhard Gerber on National Libraries in Riyadh and Beijing
Jürgen Engel is principal of KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten GmbH. He studied Architecture at Technische Universität Braunschweig, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, RWTH University in Aachen, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten’s projects have received numerous awards, including the Lower Saxony State Architecture Prize, the International Highrise Award, Mipim Award, Design for Asia Award, and red dot design award.
Eckhard Gerber is owner and founder of Gerber Architekten. He studied Architecture at the Technical University of Braunschweig where he graduated in 1966 and founded the studio “Werkgemeinschaft 66”, which became Gerber Architekten in 1979, with offices in Germany, Saudi Arabia and China. Since 2004 Professor Gerber has been Professor of Design Basics and Design in Architecture for the Master’s Study Course in REM & CPM at the University of Wuppertal. Since 1992, he has been the Chairman of the Dortmund Art Association.
Mr. Engel will be lecturing on the National Library of China building, and Eckhard Gerber will be lecturing on the King Fahad National Library, both designed by their respective offices, as part of the Icons of Knowledge exhibition curated by Noam Dvir and Daniel Rauchwerger.
