Landscape as Painting Workshop: Monique Crine
Monique Crine’s environmental portraits invite speculation about stereotypes and identity. Her paintings, which oftentimes depict family and friends, probe culture and unravel time. For the 50th anniversary of Kennedy’s assassination, she created a series of monochrome paintings of JFK inspired by press photographs taken by her grandfather. She will be working with members of the NFL in the spring of 2014 for an upcoming project.
Monique Crine obtained her B.A. from San Francisco State University, and her M.F.A. from Cornell University. She is the recipient of many awards including a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant; CCA grant; the Bank of America Award in Fine Arts; and a National MS Society scholarship. Since her first show in 1996, Crine has exhibited across North America, with solo shows in New York, Denver, and California. She is currently represented by Tina Goodwin Gallery and is a member of Pirate, an artist run cooperative in Denver, CO.
