MDE Lecture: Jonathan Hursh

Jonathan Hursh recently launched Utopia, a design and urban planning firm re-imagining the future of slums. It aims to convert slums into next generation microcities.

In his secondary role as founder and executive chairman of INCLUDED, Jonathan supports its overall strategy and is its chief connector. Founding the organization in Beijing in 2006, INCLUDED has field operations now in Beijing, Shanghai, Kathmandu, and Dhaka and is on path to build out a linked network of 10 strategic cities and 100 community centers across the world to advance the cause of migrant slums. He deeply believes that smart cities are inclusive cities towards their migrants.

Jonathan is the recipient of the World Economic Forum connected Schwab Social Entrepreneur of the Year, was recently recognized on the Global 100 Public Interest Design list, is an Advisory Board Member of the World Economic Forum’s Urban Development Initiative and recently was appointed to the Advisory Board of Harvard GSD’s new Master of Design Engineering program.
