He then became a writer on cities, combining architecture with the social sciences. His new book, The Performer: life, art, politics puts together the two strands of his experience. In addition to The Performer, Richard Sennett is author of The Fall of Public Man, Flesh and Stone, The Corrosion of Character, and The Craftsman.
