Estefania Fernandez Barrancos

Lecturer in Landscape Architecture

Estefania is a restoration ecologist and lecturer at Harvard Graduate School of Design. She received her doctorate from University of Missouri St. Louis and her Master’s degree from University of Montpellier in France. Most recently, she served as a postdoctoral fellow at David Moreno Mateos’ Ecosystem Recovery Lab at the Graduate School of Design. Since 2014, she has worked with world renowned scientists to address critical gaps in restoration ecology. Specifically, she has studied the effectiveness of forest restoration at recovering plants, insects, carbon pools, and root microbiomes across the USA and Central America. She is a coordinating editor for the scientific journal Restoration Ecologyauthor of several first-authored peer-reviewed publications and science communication blogposts, and member of the Society for Ecological Restoration.
