Champion of Neighborhoods: Maurice Cox (LF 02) in Detroit

Maurice Cox, Detroit’s new planning director, views the city through the lens of opportunity. While others can’t see beyond acres of abandoned land, he sees the walkable streets and neighborhood density that foster community and plenty of parks, gardens and local enterprise. Toni Griffin (LF ’98) couldnt find it, so she made her own

Contrary to the recent assertion in The Atlantic City Lab–that there’s no syllabus for an urban design course on race and justice–there is at least one: Toni Griffin (LF ’98) created it and teaches it at the CCNY J.Max Bond Center on Design for the Just City. She writes about it in Next City.
