Professor Felipe Correa to lecture in Montevideo

Felipe Correa, Assistant Professor and Director of the Urban Design Program, will speak at Universidad de la República in Montevideo (Uruguay) on April 13th. His lecture will focus on resource extraction within the South American continent and its effects on current urbanization processes.  The lecture will also mark the launch of theSouth America Project Research Workshops to be carried out in Montevideo throughout the next two years.

Alex Krieger invited to lecture in China and Israel

Over the GSD Spring Break Alex Krieger lectured at six of China's leading architecture and planning schools including Tsinghua University in Beijing, Tonji University in Shanghai, Dongnan University in Nanjing, Xian University, Harbin University, & Tianjin University.   Additionally, he addressed the staff of the Planning Bureaus of  the cities of Tianjin, Shanghai, Nanjing and Fuzhou about the importance of urban design.  Earlier in March he delivered the Keynote Lecture at the Annual Conference of the Israel Planners Association, on this year's organizing theme of planning large scale urban infrastructure.

Zofnass methodology published in Infrastructure Sustainability and Design

Recently released, Infrastructure Sustainability and Design compiles the first two years of research of the Zofnass Program for Sustainable Infrastructure. The Zofnass Program for Sustainable Infrastructure was founded in 2008 by a generous donation from Paul and Joan Zofnass, and is housed at Harvard Graduate School of Design. Its activities are extended to several schools at the University including Public Health, Government, Business, and the Center for the Environment.

Karolina Kawiaka (MArch ’94) Nominated for People’s Choice Award

Karolina Kawiaka (MArch '94) has been named a winner in the National Ideas Competition for the Washington Monument grounds. Her design, "The People's Forum," is currently on display at the National Building Museum and will be included in an upcoming show at the Virginia Center for Architecture. View her design, listen to the interview, and vote for it to win the People's Choice Award.

Chris Reed (AB '91), Adjunct Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture and Founding Principal of Stoss Landscape Urbanism, will present a keynote lecture entitled "Landscape and City-Making" at the annual LAbash conference on Friday March 16 in Miami.

Two GSD Teams Recognized at ULI/Gerald D. Hines Student Urban Design Competition

The Urban Land Institute/Gerald D. Hines Student Urban Design Competition challenges multidisciplinary student teams to create a comprehensive development program for a real, large-scale site. This year's student entries numbered 139 between 64 schools and proposed a long-term vision for creating a distinct identity for a new downtown Houston district. Two teams of GSD students were recognized in the tenth annual competition, one with an honorable mention for superior site planning, and the other, a joint team with the University of Colorado, was selected as one of four finalists.

Dongwoo Yim (MAUD ’08) and PRAUD Win Honorable Mention

Dongwoo Yim (MAUD '08) of PRAUD (Progressive Research in Architecture, Urbanism and Design) received an honorable mention for their design, the Greenhouse Transformer in the Harlem Edge/Cultivating Connections competition. The competition called for redevelopment designs of the decommissioned Department of Sanitation marine transfer station located in the Hudson River at 135th Street.
