Sustainable infrastructure: the Zofnass (En)vision

he largest indoor sport fish hatchery in North America is the first ever recipient of the EnvisionTM Gold award for sustainable infrastructure. The award ceremony that honored the William Jack Hernandez Fish Hatchery of Anchorage Alaska was the culmination of 6 years of collaboration by the Zofnass Program for Sustainable Infrastructure at the GSD with the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure to create a rating system for infrastructure sustainability. It also marked the start of a new phase in implementing the Envision standards on a wide scale.

Gund: a stormwater testing lab

Two MDesS students are using the GSD as a laboratory to show how Gund’s outdoor spaces can be more inviting and social while also working to improve water quality. Ecaterina Dobrescu and Rebecca Bartlett created “Stormwater Modules,” with help from an Office for Sustainability grant,  to transform a concrete patio through a modular system of vegetation and planters that will absorb and purify stormwater

Niall Kirkwood presents on the Theme of “Industrial Ecology: Strategy for Green Economy” in Korea

Niall Kirkwood, GSD Professor of Landscape Architecture and Technology, presented in June 2013 at the International Society for Industrial Ecology (ISIE) Biennial Conference in Ulsan, Korea on the Theme of "Industrial Ecology: Strategy for Green Economy". The conference was organized by chair Professor H. S. Park, University of Ulsan and Professor Marian Chertow of Yale University School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, and was hosted by the University of Ulsan.

He said, she said: Women in Design take on Pritzker

Although the response by the Pritzker jury to Women in Design’s petition - to acknowledge the work of Robert Venturi’s wife and creative partner Denise Scott Brown - was disappointing, the Harvard GSD group is not going to give up. And it’s expanding its efforts to keep a spotlight on the issue of equity in the design fields with its new Design for Equality website.
