Landscape Architecture Frontiers launches with work by GSD faculty and alums

The inaugural issue of Landscape Architecture Frontiers, guest edited by Xiaoxan Lu (MLA '12), features an introductory essay by Pierre Bélanger (associate professor of landscape architecture) and writing by Emily Schlickman (MLA '12), Sara Jacobs (MLA '12), and Cathy De Almeida (MLA '11). Chief editor is visiting professor of landscape architecture Kongjian Yu (DDes '95).

John Hong and Jinhee Park at Van Alen Institute 4/25

The GSD exhibit “Deconstruction/Construction: The Cheonggyecheon River Project in Seoul” curated by Joan Busquets (professor in practice of urban planning and design) has traveled to the Van Alen Institute. On April 25 at 6:30 p.m. there will be a launch of the book Convergent Flux: Contemporary Architecture and Urbanism in Korea by John Hong (adjunct associate professor and MArch ‘96) and Jinhee Park (design critic in architecture and MArch '02) to accompany the exhibit.

Sanford Kwinter wins Arts and Letters Award in Architecture

Last week the American Academy of Arts and Letters announced the recipients of its 2013 architecture awards. Sanford Kwinter (professor of architectural theory and criticism and co-director, master in design studies program) is being recognized for contributing to “ideas in architecture through any medium of expression.”

Gender politics at Pritzker: the Denise Scott Brown petition

A campaign to press the Pritzker committee to retroactively include Denise Scott Brown in the 1991 prize awarded to her creative partner and husband Robert Venturi continues to pick up steam, thanks to recent attention from the New York Times, the Huffington Post and the New Yorker. The petition was started by Arielle Assouline-Lichten (MArch ’13) and Caroline James (MArch ‘14).
