Encounters: Denise Scott Brown Photographs (Lars Müller Publishers, 2025) celebrates the photography of architect, planner, and urban designer Denise Scott Brown. Edited by Izzy Kornblatt (MDes ’19), the book moves thematically through Scott Brown’s photographic oeuvre, presenting—for the first time—an essential collection of Scott Brown’s images from the 1950s to the 1970s.
“These are quiet photos, a provoking collection of in-between moments. They depict the everyday, the ordinary: banal bits and pieces of life that in fact make for rich studies,” writes Angelina Torre in a review for The Wall Street Journal .
These photographs, chosen in collaboration between Scott Brown and Kornblatt, offer a unique glimpse into the ways designers perceive and interact with the world around them.
An architectural historian, critic, and designer based in New Haven, Connecticut, Kornblatt is currently pursuing a PhD in the history and theory of architecture at Yale.
