We invite our international applicants to join the GSD admissions team for an information session. The application process is fundamentally the same for both our international and U.S. applicants. There are a few application policies, however, that apply particularly to international applicants, such as the TOEFL requirement and providing translations of transcripts that are not in English. We are hosting this session to address questions that come up each year and to provide an overall review of the process. We’ll also touch briefly on resources available to GSD students.
MRE Faculty Conversations Series
In this MRE Faculty Conversation, Will Kohn Fleissig and David Hamilton will discuss The Development Project, a signature MRE course in which students take on the role of developer and prepare proposals for complex urban sites. Drawing on Fleissig’s work as an architect, planner, and developer of large-scale mixed-use districts, and Hamilton’s experience in real estate development and conservation projects, they will explore how students engage directly with investors, public officials, housing advocates, and other stakeholders; collaborate with GSD design studios; and learn to make sound judgments amid the competing demands and uncertainties of real estate practice. Frank Apeseche and Charles Wu will discuss the Master in Real Estate program’s approach to finance, development, and management education. Drawing on their extensive experience in real estate investment, private equity, corporate leadership, and enterprise strategy, they will examine how the MRE’s required finance sequence moves from the fundamentals of real estate analysis to the complex decisions involved in acquisitions, investment, development, asset management, and the leadership of real estate organizations. The conversation will consider the role of financial rigor, strategic judgment, and practical experience in preparing students for a range of professional paths across the real estate field. The presentation will be followed by time for questions from prospective students.

Tim Love, Assistant Director of the Master in Real Estate Program, will discuss the role of design in real estate decision-making, from individual buildings and sites to district-scale development. Drawing on his work as an architect, urban designer, planner, and founding principal of Utile, a Boston-based design and planning studio, he will consider how market conditions, regulation, financial analysis, and design inform the conception and delivery of real estate projects. The conversation will also examine the advantages of pursuing graduate real estate education within the Graduate School of Design.

Drawing on her expertise in real estate finance, sustainability, and organizational strategy, Professor Avis Devine will consider how climate risk, environmental and social performance, regulation, and stakeholder expectations affect asset value, investment decisions, and the future of cities. The conversation will explore the MRE program’s approach to preparing students to evaluate these issues across buildings, portfolios, and urban systems.

Frank Apeseche and Kristen Hunter will introduce prospective applicants to the Master in Real Estate Practicum, the final component of the program’s year-long course of study. Following nine months of in-residence coursework, students undertake a two-month field placement with a real estate organization in the United States or abroad, applying and reflecting on the knowledge developed through the MRE curriculum under the guidance of experienced practitioners.
The conversation will explore the range of Practicum opportunities across investment, development, asset management, affordable housing, public-sector real estate, technology, and placemaking. It will also consider how the Practicum connects students’ professional interests and prior experience with organizations and projects that advance beneficial social and environmental outcomes, while helping them develop the skills, discernment, and relationships needed for the next stage of their careers.
