Upcoming Sessions
In this MRE Faculty Conversation, Will Kohn Fleissig and David Hamilton will discuss The Development Project, a signature MRE course in which students take on the role of developer and prepare proposals for complex urban sites. Drawing on Fleissig’s work as an architect, planner, and developer of large-scale mixed-use districts, and Hamilton’s experience in real estate development and conservation projects, they will explore how students engage directly with investors, public officials, housing advocates, and other stakeholders; collaborate with GSD design studios; and learn to make sound judgments amid the competing demands and uncertainties of real estate practice. Staff from the MDE program will present information about the program and application process, as well as take questions.
Frank Apeseche and Charles Wu will discuss the Master in Real Estate program’s approach to finance, development, and management education. Drawing on their extensive experience in real estate investment, private equity, corporate leadership, and enterprise strategy, they will examine how the MRE’s required finance sequence moves from the fundamentals of real estate analysis to the complex decisions involved in acquisitions, investment, development, asset management, and the leadership of real estate organizations. The conversation will consider the role of financial rigor, strategic judgment, and practical experience in preparing students for a range of professional paths across the real estate field. The presentation will be followed by time for questions from prospective students.

Tim Love, Assistant Director of the Master in Real Estate Program, will discuss the role of design in real estate decision-making, from individual buildings and sites to district-scale development. Drawing on his work as an architect, urban designer, planner, and founding principal of Utile, a Boston-based design and planning studio, he will consider how market conditions, regulation, financial analysis, and design inform the conception and delivery of real estate projects. The conversation will also examine the advantages of pursuing graduate real estate education within the Graduate School of Design.
