Travel Awards

The GSD is pleased to offer travel awards to students interested in furthering their research outside of campus. Awards have their own unique eligibility requirements and application criteria, so please review the information carefully. Only students who are currently enrolled and continuing their program may apply for travel awards. Travel awards do not offset the cost of a students’ enrollment, so they are not considered financial aid.

Program-Specific Travel Awards

School-Wide Awards

  • Paul M. Heffernan International Travel Award

    The Paul M. Heffernan International Travel Award funds GSD students who want to travel internationally to focus on professional development related to their academic pursuits.

  • Penny White Project Fund

    The Penny White Project Fund annually awards up to $50,000 in project funding for student-submitted research proposals. The call is open to all graduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students at the GSD.

Additional Travel awards

Conference Attendance Fund

The GSD Student Conference Attendance Fund, administered by Student Forum, supports GSD students in attending conferences relevant to their research interests and/or coursework. 

Healthy Places Students’ Research Grant

Healthy Places Design Lab offers grants of up to $700 in funding to help eligible GSD students offset travel and other research-related expenses.
