The GSD remembers Timothy P. Greer (MArch ’82), who passed away on July 2, 2025, at the age of 68 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Tim graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from Yale University in 1979 and a Master’s in Architecture from Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1982, where he was a recipient of The Graham Foundation Scholarship Thesis Award.
In 2010, Tim founded the firm T.P. Greer Architects in New York, NY, and New Canaan, CT. In 2017, Tim returned to the GSD for an Alumni Insights and Real Estate Development Club lecture and Q&A where he discussed his Manhattan-based project 815 Fifth Avenue. Tim regarded this opportunity to present to GSD students who share his tremendous passion for design as a career highlight.
Tim often said he never wanted to retire as he truly loved what he did. His projects spanned both residential and commercial designs, and his artistic talents lent themselves to other creative endeavors, such as the abstract watercolor paintings that regularly decorated the walls of his architectural projects.
Tim will be lovingly remembered as a cheerful spirit with an unwavering sense of optimism, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Tim is survived by his mother, Dorothy Greer; his wife, Caroline Gillespie Greer; his previous wife, Kathryn “Kim” Matthews, and their children, William, Henry, and Anne Greer; his brother, Dr. William (Tracy) Greer, and their children, Logan (Oliver) Embry and Alexander (Meshal) Greer; his sister, Elizabeth Greer and her children, Robson, Mathew (Monika) and Kate Edwards.
