Yasamin Mayyas (MAUD ’16) and Marysol Rivas Brito (MArch ’17) Featured in 2025 São Paulo International Architecture Biennale

The Performative Unit, a project by Yasamin Mayyas (MAUD ’16), was featured in the 2025 São Paulo International Architecture Biennale. Developed during Mayyas’ studies at the GSD as part of the Alimentary Design Studio series, the project investigates the relationship between food, architectural, and urban systems within the scope of sustainable and self-sufficient agricultural production in Hawaii.

Mayyas collaborated with Marysol Rivas Brito (MArch ’17) on the exhibiton, and together, the two worked to connect the project to Brazilian contexts. The Performance Unit draws parallels with Brazilian regions facing similar challenges, such as environmental preservation, accelerated urbanization, and food security.

Exhibited at the Oca Pavilion designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer, the project aims to demonstrate how a solution that integrates urban planning, housing, landscape, and food production can benefit other parts of the world.
