Edward Lamson, AICP, is honored to serve on the GSD Alumni Council and to help connect students with the urban planning profession, especially those interested in collaborations between design, urban planning, and economic development. As a former practicing attorney from Toronto now based in New York City, he is excited to share his multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary approach to design and mentorship. He is also looking to build connections between GSD students and professional organizations as an accredited planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners and a co-chair of Mentorship/Emerging Planners at the American Planning Association New York Metro.
Edward is a Principal of Urban Planning at BJH Advisors in New York City. Edward draws from his background in policy and advocacy to devise comprehensive planning solutions and real estate analyses. His recent projects include serving as urban planning policy specialist for PlaNYC 2023, New York City’s long-term strategic climate plan; developing investment strategies for over $250 million in projects through the New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative; and leading socioeconomic planning studies for City of Yes Housing Opportunity, New York Penn Station Area, and Midtown South and Atlantic Avenue Mixed-Use Rezonings.
During his time at the GSD, Edward was involved in a number of student organizations, including HUPO, Harvard Urban Review, GSD/HKS Community Development Project, APIA in Design, GSD Tennis, and Queers in Design. He also served on various Urban Planning and Design administrative committees relating to admissions, curriculum, and Planning Accreditation Board compliance. He was also a research assistant to Prof. Ann Forsyth, Prof. Jerold Kayden, and Prof. Dan D’Oca.
