Stephanie Rae Lloyd (MArch ’22)
Assistant Professor of Architecture, Rhode Island School of Design
- Alumni Council
As a member of the GSD Alumni Council, Stephanie is excited to engage students and alumni through in-person gatherings and events via the Ambassadorship and Student Alumni Exchange Committees. Stephanie is eager to foster the development of GSD students as emergent leaders in the design fields through networking opportunities, panel conversations, and workshops. She believes the GSD Alumni Council can help show current students that their education positions them to be leaders outside of design communities, and she hopes to help them translate their skills into civic leadership and governmental action.
Stephanie is interested in the role architecture, as a discipline and profession, plays in the formation of public and civic discourse. As an assistant professor of architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), she has taught core and option studios, as well as theory and thesis seminars. Stephanie is also interested in design pedagogy and was a research associate for the GSD Office of Early Design Education. She is also the coordinator for RISD’s design outreach program for local high school students.
She has previously taught at the Architectural Association in London and in the Design Discovery programs at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. She has also practiced as a designer and researcher for multiple offices in London, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, including vPPR Architects, studioPM, and MILLIØNS.
Stephanie is the 2023 Boston Society of Architects Rotch Scholar and is currently working on a design research project about urban facts and contested public spaces. She is interested in how those without conventional architectural expertise—publics—have been critical in the act of consensus-building and therefore had a direct influence of the development of public space. Her work has been shown at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale and the 2025 Lisbon Architecture Triennale.
As a student at the GSD, Stephanie was the Student Forum President and Academic Chair, working closely with Dean Whiting and student representatives to address academic policies and school culture during the COVID-19 closure. Stephanie was also a contributing editor to Pairs 03 and a member of Womxn in Design. She looks forward to collaborating with the following student organizations: Student Forum, Pairs, Womxn in Design, Open Letters, Laser, Harvard GSD Urban Review, GSD Public Programs, GSD Kirkland Gallery, Design Research Forum, and Blue Print.
