Instructions: Your [promotion] [review] package will be due on July 1, 20XX. Please note that this is a firm deadline. Missing the deadline may jeopardize the review timeline, or make it impossible to conduct the review within the allotted timeframe. In addition, in the event that the deadline is not met, written notice of the outcome of the review may not align with the usual notice period for the appointment type in question; the notice period may be shorter, and closer to the end of your appointment term.
If there are unusual or exigent circumstances that affect your ability to meet the deadline, please bring this to the attention of the Faculty Affairs Office and your department chair as early as possible. Requests related to any deadline must be formalized in writing with appropriate copy to Faculty Affairs staff.
Language for statements (both external applicants and internal candidates):
- Academic statements:
- A practice or research statement that characterizes the focus of your practice and/or your area of research and how you are carrying it forward at the GSD.
- A teaching statement that describes your pedagogical approach and how you position it within the broader educational requirements of design education and your Department/program.
Revisions to internal promotion/reappointment dossiers:
- OK to submit an updated CV at any time post-submission. No revisions to statements or to dossier PDFs are permitted.*
- OK to submit an additional manuscript/book/project if it was substantially revised after July 1, published, completed, or if there are additional new book reviews or other published reviews of the work.
*All candidates will be strongly urged to have a senior faculty mentor or senior colleague read the statements in draft before the deadline, with enough time for feedback to be provided and for revising. Mentors will not edit statements but may provide feedback and suggestions for improvement. This already occurs with the APF, but PiP candidates will also be explicitly encouraged to make this part of their preparation
Revisions to external applicant materials:
- OK to submit an updated CV at any time during the period in which the candidacy is still under consideration.
- No revisions to statements or to application cover letters, portfolios, PDFs. If the search committee wishes to request additional material (e.g. syllabi, studio proposal, etc.) from all candidates on the long list, short list, or from the finalists, this is OK as long as the communication and the timing are the same for everyone in the group, and this occurs before a candidate(s) is/are recommended for appointment.
- OK to submit an additional manuscript/book/project if it was substantially revised post-submission, published, completed, or if there are additional new book reviews or other published reviews of the work
